Navigating Specificity in Social Reader
Designed for the Washington Post's Social Reader in-canvas Facebook app, we utilized search to advance our users' understanding of the topical information architecture of this social news product.
Typeahead suggestions guide our readers toward persistent follow-able Topics within the system in addition to matching articles for their queries. Upon landing on results, users can read from within the follow-able topic, see what they've already read from this category, and see social signals.
We've continued to evolve the search experience through regular design and development iterations: our platform can now provide results sorted on by user-curation, popularity and cross-platform engagement so that users may easily find pockets of news where they are likely to "bump into" other users sharing and curating from these interests.
